TASK-FIN-105-03 · Task family
Pricing & valuation exception review. Stale prices, FX conversion and instrument valuation.
Overview. Resolve each pricing exception under the valuation policy and quantify its impact.
Pricing controls flag exceptions: a price that hasn't changed for days and a foreign holding converted at a rate other than the policy fix. The agent checks each against the valuation policy and computes the impact.
Overriding a price needs evidence and approval. Replacing a stale price with any recent quote isn't enough.
Value to the buyer
Valuation errors flow straight into NAV. Trains policy-exact pricing review.

Sample prompt. What the agent is asked to do, as a buyer would see it.
The fund holds 250,000 shares of a UK company priced at £12.40. The valuation policy converts at the WM/Reuters 4pm London closing rate, which was 1.2650 USD per GBP, but the position was converted at 1.2710 from a morning feed. A corporate bond in the fund has also shown the same price for six business days. Resolve both exceptions under the policy and quantify the impact.
Verification criteria. What the verifier checks, and how.
Local value
250,000 × £12.40 = £3,100,000.
Correct conversion
£3,100,000 × 1.2650 = $3,921,500.
Impact
Overstated by $18,600 at 1.2710.
Stale bond
Checked against an alternative source in the policy and routed for approval if overridden.
Approvals
Overrides go to the valuation committee with evidence.
Key failure modes. Where agents go wrong on this task.
- Converting at the latest available rate
- Replacing the bond price with a single broker quote and no approval
- Reporting the exceptions without their impact
