TASK-FIN-105-02 · Task family
Corporate action investigation. Entitlement calculations, event timing and position adjustments.
Overview. Recompute the entitlement from event dates and holdings, and propose an approved correction.
After a cash dividend, the fund's books and the custodian disagree on the amount received. The fund sold part of its holding on the ex-date, and the accounting system applied the sale before computing the entitlement.
The agent has to work out who is entitled from the event dates, recompute the dividend and propose a supported adjustment for approval.
Value to the buyer
Corporate-action errors are a frequent source of NAV errors. Trains date-driven entitlement reasoning.

Sample prompt. What the agent is asked to do, as a buyer would see it.
A fund's accounting system shows a different dividend from the custodian's report following a corporate action. Merrow Foods paid a regular cash dividend of $0.85 per share. The fund held 100,000 shares and sold 20,000 on the ex-date. The books accrued $68,000; the custodian credited $85,000. Investigate the difference using the corporate-action notice and position history, determine the cause, propose the appropriate adjustment, and update the reconciliation record without introducing unsupported changes.
Verification criteria. What the verifier checks, and how.
Dates
Under US T+1, the ex-date is the record date. The seller on the ex-date keeps the dividend.
Entitlement
100,000 shares × $0.85 = $85,000. The custodian is right.
Cause
The system applied the ex-date sale before computing the entitlement.
Adjustment
A $17,000 increase to the dividend receivable, proposed for approval.
Record
The reconciliation record cites the notice and position history.
Key failure modes. Where agents go wrong on this task.
- Accepting the books because the sale happened before the payment
- Writing the difference off as a custodian error
- Posting the adjustment directly
