ENV-FIN-105 · Investment Operations & Fund Accounting
FundOps & NAV. Keep investment records consistent and catch reporting errors before they reach NAV or investor reports.
A fund's portfolio accounting, broker, custodian and administrator records, corporate actions and valuation files, where agents reconcile trades, positions and cash, process corporate actions and support NAV oversight.
Overview. What the environment trains, and the work it's built around.
Core competency
Keep investment records consistent and catch reporting errors before they reach NAV or investor reports.
- Reconciling positions and cash across internal and external records
- Separating timing differences from real breaks
- Calculating corporate-action entitlements from event dates
- Reviewing prices and FX against valuation policy
- Supporting NAV oversight without exceeding the role's authority
Built around the work of
Fund Accountant · Investment Operations Analyst · Middle-Office Analyst · Fund Controller
Simulated systems
- Portfolio management system
- Custody
- Brokerage
- Fund accounting
- Pricing service
- Exception workflow
Sample task
A fund's portfolio accounting system shows a different position from the custodian's report following a corporate action. Investigate the difference using trade records, corporate-action notices, settlement status and position histories. Determine the cause of the discrepancy, propose the appropriate adjustment or escalation, and update the reconciliation record without introducing unsupported changes.

Workflow coverage. What agents do, and what the verifier checks.
Workflow
Reconciliation
Example tasks
Reconcile fund positions and cash with the custodian.
What is verified
Timing differences and real breaks are separated, and each break is evidenced.
Workflow
Corporate actions
Example tasks
Investigate a dividend break after a sale around the ex-date.
What is verified
Entitlement recomputed from event dates and holdings.
Workflow
Pricing and valuation
Example tasks
Review stale prices and FX conversions against valuation policy.
What is verified
Prices and rates match policy sources, and the impact is computed.
Workflow
NAV oversight
Example tasks
Assess an error's materiality and prepare it for sign-off.
What is verified
Impact, materiality and routing follow the fund's policy and the agent's role.
Task families. Each family has its own datasheet: prompt, verification criteria and failure modes.

Fund Controller
Agent tools. What the agent can call.
The agent reads internal and external records, computes entitlements, opens breaks and proposes adjustments. Changes to positions or the ledger need operations approval, and NAV sign-off belongs to the fund controller.

Verification methodology. Checked against state the verifier computes itself.
Identification of the discrepancy, trade-date and settlement-date treatment, corporate-action eligibility and entitlements, security and cash accounting, FX and valuation dates, exception classification and escalation, and the audit evidence behind the final state.
The verifier checks
- 01Each discrepancy is identified and classified as timing or a real break.
- 02Trade-date and settlement-date treatment is correct for the market's settlement cycle.
- 03Corporate-action eligibility and entitlements follow the event dates and holdings.
- 04Security and cash accounting entries are correct.
- 05Prices and FX rates come from the valuation policy's sources and times.
- 06Exceptions are classified and escalated to the right owner.
- 07Every change in the final state is backed by audit evidence and, where required, approval.
Reward
Deterministic reconciliations are graded exactly. Valuation-policy judgments and matters that need authorized human approval are graded as such, not forced into exact numerical answers.
Scores zero on
- Unauthorized ledger or position adjustments
- Signing off NAV when the role covers only exception analysis
- Closing a break without supporting evidence
