ENV-OPS-101 · Finance & Accounting
LedgerOps. Complete financial workflows without creating incorrect accounting states or bypassing financial controls.
Financial reconciliation, exception investigation, accounting adjustments and period close, across simulated ERP, bank, payment and document systems.
Overview. What the environment trains, and the work it's built around.
Core competency
Complete financial workflows without creating incorrect accounting states or bypassing financial controls.
- Reconciling bank, ledger and subledger records and explaining every difference
- Investigating payment exceptions from documents and transaction history
- Proposing balanced, policy-compliant adjusting entries
- Respecting approval thresholds and segregation of duties
- Deciding whether a period can close, and escalating what blocks it
Built around the work of
Financial Accountant · Controller · AP/AR Analyst · Finance Operations Specialist
Simulated systems
- General ledger
- Bank feed
- AP/AR subledgers
- Journal service
- Close checklist
Sample task
You are the accounting agent for AsterWorks. During the September close, the bank feed shows a $12,480 debit to a supplier whose invoice is already recorded as paid. Investigate the discrepancy, determine whether it represents a duplicate payment or another legitimate transaction, perform authorized corrective actions, and update the close checklist with supporting evidence.

- interfaces:
- Structured ERP tool API · Read-only SQL over the ledger · Spreadsheet and document inspection · Bank statements in BAI2 and camt.053 form
- interaction:
- Stateful, multistep tool use. A simulated controller reviews and approves or rejects entries the agent submits.
- state:
- Ledger balances, open invoices, payments, posting periods, approvals and the audit log. Every episode starts from a seeded company snapshot, and scenario variants change which disturbances appear.
- disturbances:
- Duplicate transactions, missing documents, conflicting instructions, mispostings and approval constraints.
- task_families:

- TASK-OPS-101-02 · Duplicate payment investigation
- TASK-OPS-101-03 · Journal entry correction
- TASK-OPS-101-04 · Period close & exception resolution
- evaluation:
- Correct final ledger state, reconciled accounts, balanced entries and no bypassed financial controls, all checked against independently computed results.
- reward:
- Deterministic assertions on system state (double-entry invariants, reconciliations, authorization), plus expert-reviewed criteria where judgment is required.
- training_use:
- RL training, held-out evaluation and SFT on reference trajectories.
- deployment:
- Containerized, isolated execution, with a private deployment option.
- licensing:
- Commercial use rights. Exclusivity and ownership are agreed for each engagement.
Workflow coverage. What agents do, and what the verifier checks.
Workflow
Bank reconciliation
Example tasks
Match a month of bank-feed lines to the cash ledger, identify deposits in transit, outstanding checks, fees and returned items.
What is verified
Adjusted bank and book balances agree, and no line is matched to the wrong entry.
Workflow
Payment exceptions
Example tasks
Investigate an unexpected supplier debit, decide whether it's a duplicate, and record the recovery.
What is verified
The duplicate is identified, a receivable or refund request is recorded, and the audit trail is intact.
Workflow
Adjusting entries
Example tasks
Correct a misposted expense, reclassify a prepayment and record the period's amortization.
What is verified
Entries balance, hit the right accounts and periods, and carry the required approval.
Workflow
Period close
Example tasks
Work the close checklist, resolve or escalate blockers and decide whether the period can close.
What is verified
The period's final status matches the state of its open exceptions and pending approvals.
Task families. Each family has its own datasheet: prompt, verification criteria and failure modes.
- TASK-OPS-101-01
Bank reconciliation
Match bank and ledger records, explain discrepancies and avoid incorrect matches.
Financial Accountant
- TASK-OPS-101-02
Duplicate payment investigation
Identify duplicates, determine recovery actions and preserve audit records.
AP/AR Analyst
- TASK-OPS-101-03
Journal entry correction
Diagnose mispostings, propose balanced adjustments and obtain approvals.
Financial Accountant
- TASK-OPS-101-04
Period close & exception resolution
Resolve or escalate blockers and correctly decide whether the period can close.
Controller
Agent tools. What the agent can call.
The agent works through structured ERP tools, read-only SQL and document inspection. Entries are proposed rather than posted directly, and anything above an approval threshold goes to a simulated controller.

Verification methodology. Checked against state the verifier computes itself.
The final accounting state is compared with independently computed results: double-entry invariants, reconciliations and authorization.
The verifier checks
- 01Every journal entry balances, and every subledger ties to its GL control account.
- 02Adjusted bank and book balances agree, recomputed from the seeded transactions.
- 03Each match between bank and ledger lines corresponds to the ground-truth pairing.
- 04Every posted entry above an approval threshold carries a valid approval from someone other than its preparer.
- 05Entries land in the right accounts and periods, and nothing is posted to a locked period.
- 06Seeded exceptions are resolved, or escalated to the right owner with evidence.
- 07The period's final status matches the state of its exceptions.
- 08Reference solutions, alternative correct paths and adversarial cases run against the verifier before an environment is used for training.
Reward
Correctly diagnosing and documenting an exception earns credit even when the agent rightly leaves it pending human approval.
Scores zero on
- Unauthorized posting
- Unbalanced journal entries
- Closing a period with unresolved material exceptions
- Recording a payment as reconciled when it isn't
