ENV-FIN-102 · Credit Analysis & Private Credit
Credit & Covenant. Apply contractual credit terms correctly to borrower financials and reach auditable conclusions.
Credit agreements, amendments, borrower financials, covenant certificates and lender correspondence, where the right answer depends on interlocking definitions, amendments, calculation conventions and reporting dates.
Overview. What the environment trains, and the work it's built around.
Core competency
Apply contractual credit terms correctly to borrower financials and reach auditable conclusions.
- Finding the operative provisions across an agreement and its amendments
- Reconstructing covenant EBITDA, leverage and coverage under the agreement's definitions
- Assessing breaches, cure rights and waivers
- Monitoring a portfolio of borrowers for reporting and headroom exceptions
- Escalating ambiguity instead of resolving it silently
Built around the work of
Credit Analyst · Loan Portfolio Analyst · Private Credit Associate
Simulated systems
- Credit document repository
- Borrower reporting
- Covenant calculator
- Monitoring dashboard
Sample task
Northbridge Credit has submitted its latest quarterly financial statements and covenant certificate. The original credit agreement establishes a maximum leverage ratio of 4.5×. A subsequent amendment changes certain definitions and covenant thresholds. Determine which contractual provisions govern the current reporting period, independently reconstruct the leverage calculation, and assess whether the borrower complies with its obligations. Document the relevant provisions and flag any unresolved ambiguity.

Agent tools. What the agent can call.
The agent searches and extracts from long credit documents, retrieves borrower financials, computes ratios and records its conclusions in covenant cases and monitoring reports.

Verification methodology. Checked against state the verifier computes itself.
The operative agreement and amendment, covenant definitions and effective dates, the reporting period, allowable adjustments, ratios and headroom, and the breach, cure or waiver determination, all reconstructed independently from the contract and the borrower's records.
The verifier checks
- 01The operative agreement and amendments are identified for the test date.
- 02Covenant definitions and effective dates are applied as written.
- 03The reporting period and its trailing-twelve-month figures are correct.
- 04Add-backs and other adjustments respect their caps.
- 05Ratios and headroom are recomputed from the borrower's records.
- 06The breach, cure or waiver determination follows from the recomputed figures and the agreement.
- 07Unresolved ambiguity is flagged or escalated.
Reward
Matching the borrower's covenant certificate earns nothing if the certificate is wrong. Ground truth comes from the contract and the financial records, never from numbers the agent or the borrower supplied.
Scores zero on
- Applying superseded terms after an amendment
- A compliance determination that contradicts the reconstructed ratio
- Concluding without flagging or escalating an unresolved ambiguity
